(This is from my journal last summer. Hopefully a bit of this young man’s attitude can help you if you’re looking to move on.)

I saw a sign a few days ago. I was biking over to my brother’s place when a strange obstacle blocked my path.
A cardboard box had exploded on the sidewalk, vomiting heavy textbooks in every direction. I coasted to a stop and noticed a young Indian man sorting through the wreckage.
“What? Oh, right–the books.” He picked up a biochemistry textbook with a broken spine and tossed it over his back. “We’re moving, and it’s easier to just throw them off the balcony than to carry them all the way down four flights of stairs.” And he gestured up at an apartment building balcony. His roommate waved back.
Aren’t you worried they might get damaged?
He shrugged, and then said something that might be the most perfect summary of wanderlust I’ve ever heard:
“Eh, I’ve been living here too long anyway.”
